Florida's 16th congressional district is considered one of the few potential takeover seats for the Republicans this election. The district is currently represented by Democrat Tim Mahoney who is weak on illegal immigration.

Currently there is a contentious primary between three Republicans. All of them claim that they will secure the border and enforce the laws, but Gayle Harrell is the only one who will make it a top priority and has the record to back it up.

While the other candidates will make a few mentions of immigration, Harrell has called stopping illegal immigration her "Number one issue."

In the state house Harrell wrote the Florida Safe Borders Act that would have allowed local law enforcement to cooperate with Federal Immigration authorities and co-sponsored legislation that would have required state contractors to use E-verify. She also led the fight against allowing illegal aliens to get health care benefits.

Because of this, one open borders group tried to smear her by calling her "Florida's answer to Lou Barletta." We consider that a badge of honor. The primary is on August 26, so we need to act now.

Team America candidate Randy Terrill solidly defeated his corporate sponsored opponent Curtis Bruehl in a landslide. Terrill was challenged because he was the author of bill 1804 which is one of the toughest state laws to combat illegal immigration.

The Oklahoma News credited "last minute gifts"-most of which came from Team America-for giving Randy an edge. Always humble, Randy made it clear that the importance of this race is not just about himself, but "a vindication for the ordinary, working people over the Oklahoma City oligarchy." He said the "race had nothing to do with my opponent. It was about my attempt to crack down on illegal immigration and making English the official language."

Robert MenendezE-Verify, an internet-based system operated jointly by the Department of Homeland Security and Social Security Administration, is our most effective tool to stop illegal immigration. It allows businesses to check the legal status of its employees-accurately, cheaply, and timely. It only takes seconds to get the answer! It has been made mandatory for all employers in Arizona, and many employers in other states like South Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennesee, and Georgia. The illegals are leaving those states in droves. Even George Bush signed an executive order that requires all federal contractors to use E-Verify. We don't know why he suddenly decided to enforce the law, but we're happy he did.

This is all in Jeopardy because E-Verify is set to expire at the end of November. If it is not renewed, all our hardwork and progress made on both the state and federal level will be reversed. E-Verify is on its way to Renewal but is currently being blocked by NJ. Senator Robert Menendez has put a hold on the renewal unless it is paired with increases in foreign worker visas.

ACT NOW

  • Call Sen. Menendez's office at (202) 224-4744. and demand that he let there be a vote on E-Verify. Tell him if he wants more foreign workers, then introduce it as a stand alone bill instead of making us choose between enforcement or more immigrants!

Paul BrounTeam America Candidate Paul Broun has defeated his establishment backed candidate in Georgia's tenth congressional district, winning 71% of the vote. Up until Election Day, all the papers were calling this race a toss-up. Even though he was an incumbent, Paul faced an uphill battle. His opponent Barry Fleming had more money, the support of the local media, and the backing of the Georgia Republican establishment. Fleming ran a dirty campaign by making distorted and personal attacks. One of his tricks was to claim that Broun supported giving public housing for illegal aliens. This was a complete lie. Paul, has a perfect voting record on illegal immigration.

Team America raised nearly 20,000 dollars towards Broun's campaign, and Tom Tancredo made robo-calls in the district to help set the record straight, and the voters of Georgia responded.

Team America Commentary

Bay Buchanan: Barack Obama-Embarassed by America

First his pastor trashed America. He explained to his rich pals in San Francisco that the hard working folks in Middle America "cling to guns or religion" because they are "bitter" over the tough economic times. Now Obama tells us that we shouldn't worry about immigrants learning English; our focus should be on getting our children to learn Spanish.

Tom Tancredo: Mexico: A Failed State in the Making

Mexican law enforcement officials are walking into U.S. ports of entry in increasing numbers to seek political asylum, and the flow may soon become a flood as Mexico's battle with the drug cartels intensifies. Our first instinct is to welcome them, but there is more at stake than humanitarian sentiments.

Marcus Epstein: Chris Cannon's Defeat a Victory for Immigration Reform

Were it not for Chris Cannon's long and vocal support for amnesty, there is absolutely no reason why Chris Cannon should have had any problem in a Republican primary. He had oodles of money and outspent Chaffetz 7-1. He had the support of the entire Republican Establishment from George Bush (still popular in Utah) on down.

Team America PAC Keeps Gayle Harrell in the Race for Fl 16

From Congressional Quarterly -- Harrell, meanwhile, appears to be very much in the running, in part because she has rallied support from some conservatives based on her tough position on illegal immigration. In recent weeks, she has corralled support from activists focused on reducing illegal immigration, including the Team America Political Action Committee, founded by Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo

Chris Cannon Loses to Immigration Hawk

From Townhall: Bay Buchanan, chairman of the Team America PAC sent, out a glowing email to PAC supporters to praise his Chaffetz's win. "Friends, Jason ran a great campaign on out of control spending, immigration, and $4 gas," she wrote. "Bottom line: he pounded Cannon on abandoning conservative principles and for abandoning America in the battle against illegal immigration, and he won in one of the most Republican districts in America."

Reccomended Op Eds

If we don't elect representatives, from president to Congress, to city halls and county supervisors, who will act to rid this country of criminals and enforce our borders, we are fools, and worse, headed for our place on the shelf beside the fabled Gulliver.

Steve Sailer: What the Census Bureau's Projections Mean

On January 13, 2000, the U.S. Census Bureau released population projections stating that the number of Hispanics resident in the country would grow massively, from 32 million in 2000 to 98 million in 2050...Now, the Bureau has released its first full-blown set of projections in 8.5 years,. And they're a doozy. The key figure: 133 million Hispanics by 2050, an increase of almost 100 million in half a century.
